Fiji is located in the South Pacific Ocean and covers an overall land area of 18,376 sq km, and is an archipelago made up of 332 islands of which only about 110 are inhabited and of these, very few have been developed for tourism. Fiji is dominated by volcanic mountains which are mostly dormant. Viti Levu and Vanua Levu are the two major islands and has almost 80 % of the population. Viti Levu is the heart of the country with high tropical mountains, rivers, waterfalls, rainforests and the rich wildlife and offers a plethora of both land and water adventures.
Fiji enjoys an ideal tropical maritime climate with very slight variations in temperatures; during summer the temperature hovers between 23C-30C and in winter between 20C – 26C. The wet season is from November to April, with heavy but brief coral downpours. The best time to visit the Fiji Islands is from
May to November.
Suva, Fiji’s capital is the largest city in the region and the most cosmopolitan. It is a very beautiful harbor city, perched on a hilly peninsula in the southeast corner of Viti Levu. The country’s two cities –the capital Suva, and Lautoka, a port town which relies on the sugar-cane farms which surround it, has two-thirds of the urban population living here.
