Ranthambhor National Park (14 kms.) : The famous park is named after the Ranthambhor fort, set within its precincts. The park sprawls over an area of 392 sq. kms. of dry deciduous and tropical thorn forest with nullahsand waterfalls. It is perhaps one of the best sites for observing and photographing the majestic tiger.Other carnivores here are, leopard, hyena, jackal, fox, caracal, jungle cat, sloth bear and ratel. The herbivorous population includes, chital, sambar, blue bull and chinkara etc. Sambar, the largest Asiatic deer is also the pride of the park. In fact, no where else one may see sambars so frequently during the day time. Wild boars and langurs are a common sight in the park. Among the reptiles, crocodiles can be seen basking in the sun near the lakes and there is also a small presence of pythons. There are over 300 varieties of birds in the sanctuary.

The commonly sighted birds includes, peafowls, parakeets, doves, partridges, storks, egrets, fly catchers, eagles and owls. Migratory birds like graylag goose, ruddy shelduck and pintails visit the park during winters. Some rare birds like the black eagle and the crested hawk eagle can also be seen here. The three artificial lakes, Rajbag , Padam Talab and Malik Talab add to the beauty of the reserve and are also the main source of water for the wildlife. These are fine places to observe the wildlife, as animals congregate here for a drink. The beautiful Jogi Mahal overlooking the preety Padam Talab, at the foot of the fort has a Forest Rest House. The best season for visiting Ranthambhor depends on the special interest of the visitor. The park is open for visitors from October to June. But, November to March are considered to be the best months for observing wildlife.

American Samoa is an unspoiled and vastly underrated tropical destination of South Pacific Polynesia. Its natural beauty will delight you with its wonderfully peaceful bays, magnificent mountain ridges, lush rain forests, breathtaking rugged coastal scenery, soporific villages, and some of the world’s most uncluttered, remote, and utterly beautiful reefs and beaches. Once you reach this travel destination, you can find any accommodation to fit your budget from the cheapest to the most expensive.

Consisting of two separate counties, American Samoa shares a common history and identity, including the self-governing country of Western Samoa that is made up of 7 islands and American Samoa, administered and influenced by the USA since 1899 and comprising 5 volcanic island – Tutuila, Ta’u, Olosega, Aunu’u, Nu’utele) and two tiny remote atolls – Swain’s and Rose Island. With a total area of just 76.2 square miles, American Samoa lies about a hundred km to the south east of Apia – the capital city of Western Samoa – in the heart of Polynesia, housing over 58,000 inhabitants. The country enjoys a tropical maritime climate which is moderated by the southeastern trade winds and characterized by two main seasons – the rainy season which is from November to April and the dry season from May to October, with little variation in the seasonal temperature.

The dragon-shaped island of Tutuila is the largest of American Samoa’s islands and is renowned for its beautiful mountains, steep coastline and some of the most dramatic scenery you will ever see and is where 95% of the islanders live. The capital, Pago Pago, boasts one of the most picturesque and the deepest natural harbors in the South Pacific. The harbor is all that remains of the volcanic crater that once created the island of Tutuila. In Pago Pago you can find a couple of banks and some dining options where you can have plenty of excellent meals, convenience stores and several hotels and inns, including the shabbiest Rainmaker Hotel and the upscale Hotel Sadie Thompson Inn among others. In the west part of Pago Pago is the Matafao Peak - the highest point of the island with a height of 653 meters. The attractive Alega Beach which is surrounded by shell-blue waters and safeguarded by the dangerous outer reef is ideal for swimming and surfing – though it can be dangerous is another popular spot in Tutuila. The beach is famous for the stunning Alega Beach Resort with the tropical rainforest as its backdrop and the thriving Tisa’s barefoot bar.

Cuba has been a favorite tourist destination for a long time because of its beautiful beaches with translucent waters and white sand that stretch till where it meets the eye. Cuba is just where one would head to, if they want to have the real Caribbean experience with its rich culture history and colonial architecture not to mention the beauty of nature wherever you turn to. So it is no wonder that Cuba has over 2 million people coming there annually from all corners of the earth to enjoy what it has to offer.

Cuba is the largest Caribbean island, lying between the Caribbean Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean. It lies 145 km (90 miles) south of Key West, Florida, between the Cayman Islands and the Bahamas, to the west of Haiti, and northwest of Jamaica. The nation of Cuba consists of the main island of Cuba, the Isla de la Juventud, and several archipelagos. Havana is the largest city in Cuba and the country’s capital. Santiago de Cuba is the second largest city. To the north of Cuba lies the United States (140 km or 90 mi away) and the Bahamas, Mexico is to the west, the Cayman Islands and Jamaica are to the south, and Haiti and the Dominican Republic are to the southeast.

Cuba is located in Central America and lies between Bahamas and Jamaica about 90 miles south of Miami and covers an overall area of 110,860 sq km. The Cuba archipelago comprises the island of Cuba, the island of Pines and about 4,200 cays and tiny islets mainly composed of corals, and it is considered as the largest Caribbean Island. The largest island that surrounds Cuba is the Isla de la Juventud or Youth Island with an area of over 3,000 sq km, which is situated on the southwestern part of the mainland Cuba. Cuba boasts of a total coastline of 5,746 km with about 300 natural beaches. There are many mountains and fertile plains and the highest peak is the Pico Turquino which rises over 2,000 meters above the sea.

Formerly these were six larger historical provinces. Cuba is divided into 15 provinces and a special municipality which is Isla de la Juventud. The others are Pinar del Rio, Artemisa, Havana, Mayabeque, Matanzas, Cienfuegos, Villa Clara, Sancti Spiritus, Ciego de Avila, Camaguey, Las Tunas, Granma, Holguin, Santiago de Cuba and Guantanamo.

The country enjoys tropical climate which is moderated by the north-easterly trade winds that blow all the year round. The rainy season is from May to October and the dry season from November to April. The average temperature is 71⁰C in July and 21⁰C in January. So Cuba is a country that has an ideal climate where tourists can visit it all the year-round.

Havana, the vibrant capital of Cuba is the leading cultural centre with its colonial style architecture. Havana dazzles tourists with its landmarks, museums and parks and the scenic sights, and is also a getaway for shopping and dining in Cuba. Some of the attractions worth visiting in Havana are the Decorative Arts National Museum, Aula Magna Cafe Cantante Mi Habana and the Campus of the University, and the Jose Marti Monument and Colon Cemetery, which is one of the most elaborate architectural monuments in the world.

Being the biggest country in the Caribbean, Cuban culture is influenced by different cultures and races, especially those of Spain and Africa. The Cubans are warm- hearted, lively and expressive and enjoy several forms of music and dance, including the salsa and the cha-cha-cha which have originated in Cuba. They love sports and other activities, like baseball, volleyball, basketball, amateur boxing, etc.

Attractions and activities in Cuba

You will always find new adventures and activities to be busy with when you are in Cuba. Cuban vacations are ideally suited irrespective of whether you are single, honeymooning, are with your families. All kinds of holidaymakers come here in search of adventure, to bathe in the turquoise seas, to just laze in the awesome pristine beaches, and take advantage of the other exclusive holiday spots with options for a whole lot of water sports, which includes sailing, diving, snorkeling, cruising or fishing. With all that Cuba has to offer, your vacations are sure to be a memorable Caribbean experience!

Cuba Beaches are famous and some of the best in the world, giving one the opportunity to soak up the sunshine, swing in a hammock and just simply listening to the lullabies of the sea. Most of Cuba’s beaches are home to dazzling, top-notch beach resorts complexes, which includes awesome pools, game rooms and fitness centers over and above a plethora of land and water sports. Some of the beaches worth mentioning include Verdadero Beach, where you can find fine restaurants, bars, amusement parks, night clubs and cabarets and museums to make your beach vacation a real experience.

Holidays in Cuba

Visiting a Cigar Factory is closest to coming to the old and traditional art of cigar making and to experience one of life’s most generous luxuries. In any one of the three main factories in Havana, visitors have the unique opportunity to see the cigars being still rolled by hand. Since Havana cigars are tightly rolled bundles of dried tobacco and one end is always ignited so that its smoke may be drawn into the mouth and lungs of the smoker so , remember to avoid buying them from people selling them on the streets.

Museums in Cuba are the representations of its traditional, cultural and historical wealth of the Cubans. The wonderful collections of fine arts, natural sciences, antique weapons are really worth checking out. The better known museums are Museum of the City (Museo de la Ciudad), which tells us the history of Havana from its founding days to the present, and exhibits several items relating to archaeology, paintings and furniture of historic value; the National Fine Arts Museum (Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes), which has an impressive and the largest collection of Cuban plastic art.

Other Activities range from scuba diving in the fantastic Cayo Largo which really has some good deep wall dives with a wide range of soft and hard corals and a multitude of marine habitats, to snorkeling in the crystalline, calm waters of the Ancon Peninsula near Trinidad with excellent visibility to almost 34m and other shallow coral reefs, to biking through the cave-rich landscape of Pinar del Rio with really stunning views of the fertile valleys where tobacco is grown. You can engage in activities like mountain biking, overland tour, jungle hiking in the rainforest, yacht cruising, river tubing, caving, canopy viewing, birding and many more.

Hotels and Resorts

You can have your pick on any kind of accommodation in Cuba from all-inclusive hotels, business and events hotels, family hotels, self-catering hotels, honeymoon hotels, golf hotels, historic hotels, countryside hotels, city centre hotels, etc. Most of the hotels give you value for you money with all the convenience, facilities and amenities of service and luxury.

Jaisalmer, the golden citadel of the Thar desert has emerged as one of the most popular tourist destinations in this part of the world. Few places can match the magnificence and grace of this ‘museum city’.

The Fort or Sonar Killa : The golden hued fort perched atop the 76 metre high Trikuta Hill was built in 1156, by Rawal Jaisal, a Bhatti Rajput and descendent of the Yadav clan. The fort built in Jurassic sandstone has its base encircled by a wall of solid stone blocks, above which the hill protects and supports the ramparts, forming a double line of defence. The bastions are in the form of half towers surrounded by high turrets and joined by thick walls. The entire living are is well protected inside the ramparts of the fort. It is approached through the Ganesh Pol or the ‘Elephant Gate’ from the main market, followed by Suraj Pol or the ‘Sun Gate’, Bhoota Pol or the ‘Haunted Gate’ and finally the Hava Pol or the ‘Wind Gate’. The Hava Pol stands sentinel to the royal palaces and leads to the main enclosure, the Hall of Public Audience. The palaces of the rulers built atop the main entrance form an imposing edifice crowned by a huge umbrella of metal mounted on a stone shaft. The fort is dotted with many intricately carved haveli’s (mansions), which have become the major attraction of the museum city. Some of the important ones are – Patwon ki Haveli : This largest and most elaborate haveli of Jaisalmer is a classic example of Rajputana architecture. It was built by the five sons of Guman Chand Patwa, a rich brocade merchant. The construction began in 1800 and was completed in 50 years. The fabulous five storeyed structure has extensive corridors and chambers which are supported by intricately carved pillars.

Nathmalji ji Haveli : I was the haveli of Nathmalji, the Prime Minister of the erstwhile State in the 19thcentury. The magnificent mansion was ornately carved by two brothers Lalu and Hathi and displays excellent craftsmanship. The brothers worked separately, one on the right side and other on the left side epitomising the side-by-side symmetry during construction.

Vacation to Bermuda

Bermuda‘s promise of sun and sea lures tourists and vacationers to its shores as this exotic island makes for a delightful getaway vacation. If you’re looking for peace and quiet, Bermuda is the ideal answer as it has pampering resorts to soothe your soul. Romantics find atmospheric inns with four-poster beds and candlelight dining. Or if you really want to let loose, jump on a motor scooter and feel the cool wind whip through your hair.

Rising out from the Atlantic Ocean and nearly 260 feet above sea level, the 21-square-mile hook-shaped Bermuda archipelago consists of around 181 coral islands and islets, most of which are uninhabited. The best time to visit Bermuda is spring to autumn. Since Bermuda is much farther north to Caribbean Sea, it has a different climate though the warm waters of the Gulf Stream help to give it a quasi-tropical atmosphere. The islands get ample rainfall though there are no rivers or freshwater lakes. So drinking water is collected on the roofs of all the buildings by law and in other special catchment areas and stored in tanks under the ground of each home. Bermuda has a mild and humid subtropical maritime climate. Gales and strong winds are common during winter and hurricane is frequent from June to November.

Bermuda, officially known as the Bermudas or Somers Islands, is a British overseas territory in the North Atlantic Ocean and is one of the last remains of the once vast British colonial empire in North America. Although it is usually referred to in the singular, the actual territory consists of 181 islands, with an area of 53.3 square kilometres (20.6 sq miles). The group of low-lying islands is 650 miles off the coast of North Carolina and covers an area of 21 miles, and Hamilton is the ever-hustling and bustling capital of Bermuda, which is dotted by its narrow, winding roads and the cool, pastel-colored houses and boasts of great shopping, traditional dining experience and a vibrant nightlife.

Main Sights

It is a heaven for history-loving guests who will enjoy the wide range of historical monuments and buildings. Places worth visiting in Hamilton include the City Hall and Arts Center, the Bermuda Cathedral, the Bermuda National Gallery, the City Market, the Waterfront Square, Victoria Park, Bermuda House of Assembly, Albuoys Point to name just a few. Most of these spots can be explored on foot, or horse carriages are available in the Front Street. The capital also serves as the Bermuda’s principal transportation hub, and you can find the central bus and ferry terminals to wherever your destination is. Bermuda boasts a balmy climate that’s comfortable throughout the year and the friendly, smiling people who are always ready to strike up a conversation. There’s plenty of local color as well, from the landscape of neat pastel houses to the dapper businessmen seen strolling around dressed in Bermuda shorts.

Do

The lovely pink sand beaches and its clear, blue ocean waters are popular with tourists coming to Bermuda and many of the hotels are located along the south shore of the island. The island is fascinating with its coral reef that harbors colorful and exotic fish and has ensnared scores of shipwrecks, making for memorable diving and snorkeling. Some of the popular beaches are:

Horseshoe Bay Beach in Southampton Parish is a beautiful pink sand beach bordered by rocky areas suitable for snorkeling. It is probably the most popular and most photographed Bermudian beach. It can be rather crowded with cruise ship tourists, whose number one stop is almost always this beach. The surf can get rough at times here. There are beach rentals, bathroom facilities, and food concessions. Lifeguards are available in summer. Be sure to look out for the impressive sea caves and tunnels. Tobacco Bay in St. George Parish: It is a boulder-sheltered, warm-water, shallow beach which can become quite crowded with cruise ship passengers. It can be reached on foot from St. George square or shuttles are readily available. Another walk will take you to nearby Fort St. Catherine. Rest rooms, food concession and beach rentals are available. Elbow Beach in Tribe Road #4, Paget Parish is another beautiful pink sand beach between Coral Beach, the Elbow Beach or Coco Reef hotels. Shelly Bay in North Shore Road in Hamilton Parish with lots of shallow water and a large playground make this beach a great choice for families with small kids. It is quite near to the Flatts Village and the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo. Restrooms, beach rentals, food concession are available. Snorkel Park is in Royal Naval Dockyard is a limestone tunnel through the keep’s wall puts you on the beachfront for water sports or snorkeling. It is a popular stop for passengers coming off the cruise ships and reluctant to leave the Dockyard area.

Vacation to Bermuda

Swimming with the Dolphins in Bermuda: If you are seeking something out of the ordinary, swimming with the bottlenose dolphins is the best adventure that the island offers and something that should not be missed as your vacations will simply be incomplete. This is once-in-a-life and a unique opportunity to see these wonderful creatures incredibly close, to touch and feel them and most of all to play with them. This is the one activity that will make your holidays in Bermuda an unforgettable one. A variety of programs for guests to meet dolphins from just five minutes to an hour-long adventure is offered Dolphin Quest Bermuda.

Fishing: You have three options if you want to go fishing in Bermuda – Shore Fishing, Deep Sea Fishing and Reef Fishing and no permit or license is required for it. Taking a fishing charter boat is the best way to experience Bermuda fishing. A typical catch includes bonefish, marlin, wahoo, little tunny, rainbow runner, yellow tail snapper and Bermuda chub.

Bermuda Cruises: Bermuda is certainly a lovely place to go on a cruise and in recent years, sailing by ship has become one of the most economical ways to visit the island. Most cruises to Bermuda last seven nights, so there is plenty of time to explore and discover the island at its best. The season for Bermuda cruise season is between April and November and unlike the Caribbean cruises, it will not be that humid and sweaty in summer. Whether you are a honeymooner, single, with friends or a family with kids, Bermuda cruises is sure to provide you with the opportunity to have fun and enjoy your holiday. Forget your busy routine and busy life to just relax and enjoy your Bermuda cruise vacation.

Explore

Bermuda also warmly welcomes nature lovers and adventure seekers from all over the globe to enjoy its picturesque countryside, the protected nature reserves and a plethora of indoor and outdoor adventures.

Bermuda Attractions: Bermuda boasts of an abundance of natural and man-made attractions, which include historic forts, aquariums, caves, parks, museums, gardens, lighthouses and many more. With all that is on offer at Bermuda, you will need to visit the island more than once to cover them all. But these are my picks of some of the best that should not be missed:

Bermuda Forts

Bermuda has many large fortifications and smaller batteries spread across the island which were built between 1612 after first settlement and were manned till 1957. For its rather small size, the island had approximately 100 fortifications built. Many of the larger ones have been restored, and are open to the public with dioramas and displays. Many of them still have their original cannons in place. Some of them like Fort Catherine, Fort Hamilton, Whale Bay Battery to name a few, lie on outlying islands and islets and can only be accessed only by boat or have been incorporated into private properties and resorts.

Bermuda Railway Trail

In 1948 after 17 years of service, the bed of the former Bermuda Railway was dismantled. Many sections of it still exist as a public walking trail stretching from St. George Town in the east end through Pembroke Parish near the City of Hamilton and on towards Somerset Village in the west end. Many station houses, railway ties and trestle footings and can be found and it offers spectacular views of the island and the waters along its length.

Vacation to Bermuda

Bermuda Aquarium Museum and Zoo is situated in the scenic village of Flatts and is the top tourist highlight, featuring interactive exhibits including a 140,000 gallon tank with a diver’s-eye view of Bermuda’s coral reefs and marine ecosystem. You can see and learn about 300 species of birds, mammals and reptiles and over 100 species of native fish. The latest exhibit is the ‘Islands of Australia’ where you can see tree kangaroos, wallabies, lemurs and others.

The Town of St. George’s: Don’t forget to stroll along the crooked streets of the colonial settlement of the Town of St George, Britain’s oldest surviving town in the New World, which is so well preserved and has been made a World Heritage site.

Botanical Garden: It is open daily from sunrise to sunset, and stretches an area of 36 acres of land featuring unusual trees, flowers and shrubs. You will be fascinated by the palm garden boasting native palmetto trees, a rose garden, a flowering hibiscus garden and an abundance of fragrant flowers and aromatic herbs. Around the garden are picnic tables where you can relax and enjoy your lunch.

For those who love outdoor sports, you can play a round at a world-class golf course, hike peaceful trails and enjoy other indoor and outdoor activities which are not found anywhere on this earth. Though rented cars are not available on the island, one can hire scooters for private transport or opt for the public transport.

Art and Culture

With its origin as a part of Virginia, and Bermuda’s proximity to the United States, many aspects of US culture are reflected in, or incorporated into Bermudian culture. We can find many non-Bermudian writers have made Bermuda their home or have homes here.

Music and dance are important in Bermuda and the dances of the colorful Gombey dancers and a usual sight at many of the important functions in Bermuda and is heavily influenced by Caribbean, African, Native American and British cultural traditions.

Watercolors painted by local artists of Bermuda are sold at various galleries, and the elaborately hand-carved cedar sculptures are another of their specialties. There are several galleries around the island where one can view and buy local artwork. Bermudians of all ages build traditional Bermudian kites every Good Friday, which are flown to symbolize Christ’s ascent. Such kites are very distinct and colorful, and made to geometric designs and are in itself an art form as much as it is a recreational tool.

Bermuda’s early culture was a mixture of various sources of its population – Native American, Spanish-Caribbean, Irish, and Scots cultures but was later was influenced by the dominant Anglo-Saxon culture. Portuguese and English are the main languages spoken in Bermuda.

Shopping

Bermuda is rather expensive since almost all goods that are sold in the shops and stores come from off the island with a steep import tax. The best shopping experience is on the Front Street, which is one of the main shopping areas and the can easily be explored on foot and faces the harbor. Another interesting place to shop is the town of St. George and Dockyard which has a shopping mall. One can also find smaller stores selling a variety of goods throughout the island.

Accommodation in Bermuda

Accommodation options in Bermuda ranges from a simple cozy bed and breakfast to the stunning full service resort hotels, offering top-class amenities and facilities to cater to the needs of even the most discerning travelers

Chivalrous Chittaurgarh, the citadel of the brave, reverberates with tales of valour and romance. The massive fort atop a hill is perhaps the best in the country and could be singled out for its glorious past. It is said that Bappa Rawal, the legendary founder of the Sisodia clan, conquered Chittaur from Mauryas in the middle of the 8thcentury. Chittaugarh remained the capital of Mewar till 1567, when Akbar, sieged Chhitaur and Udaipur became the new capital of Mewar.

The Fort : The formidable fort perched atop a 180 metre high hillock covers a huge area of 700 acres. It is said to be originally built by the Mauryans in the 7th century and later developed by the successive Mewar rulers. The citadel was ravaged thrice, but each time the indomitable spirit of Chittaur rose like a phoenix and regained its lost glory. In 1303, it was first sacked by Allaudin Khilji, who is said to have been lured by the legendary beauty of Rani Pdmini. But Rani Padmini preferred death to dishonor and committed Jauhar (self immolation), along with other ladies of the court. Chittaurgarh was plundered again in 1535, by Bahadur Shah of Gujarat and finally in 1567, by the Mughal emperor Akbar. The fort is approached through seven huge gateways or ‘pols’, which are guarded by watch tower and massive iron spiked doors. Some of the important monuments inside the fort are :-

Belize blends the best of both worlds with one of its foot dipping into the Caribbean Sea and the other planted in the Central American jungles. When we think of Belize, the first picture that comes to our mind is the snorkelers swimming through the pellucid seas, staring at a kaleidoscope of fish, dolphins, coral, turtles and other marine life offshore or the kayakers gliding from one palm-dotted, sandy islet to the next, while inland. You can see adventurous explorers checking out the ruins of ancient buildings and bird lovers watching the over 570 species of birds found here.
Belize is a small country located on the north eastern coast of Central America and is bordered in the south and west by Guatemala, to the north by Mexico and to the east by the Caribbean Sea. The mainland is about 290 kilometers long and 110 kilometers wide and has the lowest population density in the whole of Central America.

Since more than 40% of the country’s area is protected in some way or the other, between the wildlife sanctuaries, marine reserves and national parks, Belize is a haven for countless creatures of the sea, land and sky. Its diversity of ecosystems and the abundance of terrestrial and marine species gives Belize a pivotal place in the globally important Mesoamerican Biological Corridor.

Belize has a tropical climate with pronounced wet and dry seasons and the temperature varies according to the elevation, the proximity to the coast, and the moderating effects of the northeast trade winds off the Caribbean. The average temperatures in the coastal regions range from 24 °C (75.2 °F) in January to 27 °C (80.6 °F) in July. Temperatures are a little higher inland, except for the southern highland plateaus, where it is cool all the year round. The seasons are generally marked more by differences in the humidity and rainfall rather than by temperature. It has a mountainous and hilly terrain with Victoria Peak as its highest point which is 1,160 m above sea level in the Cockscomb Mountains. More than 50% of Belize is covered with the tropical rainforest with a crisscross of small rivers and in the northern and central parts; the coastline is flat and swampy with many lagoons.

There are six districts in Belize, which includes Belize, Orange Walk, Corozal, Stann Creek Cayo, and Toledo and each of them offers something special for the tourists. Whether you are fond of inland activities in jungle scenery or marine life, each of the six districts includes something to satisfy everyone’s interest. The Caribbean coast, which is lined with a coral reef and about 450 islets and other islands which are known locally as cayes (pronounced as “keys”). They are about 690 square kilometres (266 sq miles), and form the approximately 320-kilometre (199 miles) long Belize Barrier Reef, which is the longest in the Western Hemisphere and the second longest in the world after, of course, the the Great Barrier Reef. Three of the just four coral atolls in the Western Hemisphere are located off the coast of Belize.

Places of Interest

Ambergris Caye, has been for centuries, the hub of Belizean area maritime trade and is the largest island and the main getaway for the tourists to this western Caribbean piece of paradise. Just half a mile from the Belize Barrier reef is Ambergris Caye which is an ideal world-class destination for those who love water related activities including swimming, fishing, jet-skiing, parasailing and windsurfing. There is scope for a wide range of land adventures, too, like nature hiking, trekking or biking. You can find dining options and accommodation to suit any budget. During the 17th century, Ambergris Caye was a favorite refuge for the English pirates. The lovely town of San Pedro is a major settlement in the island and offers comfortable, shorts-and-sandals seaside vacations in low rise hotels and bungalow style resorts with modern facilities.

The 185 mile long Barrier Reef in the Western Hemisphere that is second to the Great Barrier Reef off the northeast coastline of Australia, is a World Heritage Site and one of the main attractions in Belize and an ideal spot for diving. People come here to explore the ancient mysteries of the Maya sites such as Altun Ha or Lamanai, to learn about the fascinating Belize wildlife, to try the authentic Belize traditional food and to just Go Island hopping to at least some of the 200 odd Belize islands, atolls and cayes. Caracol is the single largest archeological site in Belize and one of the biggest Mayan structures that is worth a visit. Other attractions in Belize include Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary, Caye Caulker, the serene and beautiful Macal River, Lighthouse Reef to name just a few.

Vacations in Belize

The Great Blue Hole and the Turneffe Islands are popular spots for scuba divers as it gives them the opportunity to dive into the crystal-clear waters to see several species of fish and other marine life. It lies near the center of the Lighthouse Reef which is a small atoll 70 km (43 mi) from and Belize City and the mainland. The hole is round in shape and 124 m (407 ft) deep and over 300 m (984 ft) across. The Great Blue Hole is a part of the larger Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System, and a World Heritage Site of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

Other water sports popular in Belize are snorkeling in the reef off Caye Caulker or the Northern Cayes, rafting, kayaking fishing, boating, scuba diving and there are various jungle and wildlife reserves of fauna and flora, bird watching, for hiking, helicopter touring as well as many Maya ruins—support the thriving tourism and ecotourism industry.

Bali Vacations

Bali is just one of more than 17,000 islands in the Indonesian archipelago and lies between Lombok in the east and Java to the west and between 8⁰ and 9⁰ S of the Equator. In the 2010 census the population was almost 4 million and is about 144 kilometers from east to east and 80 kilometers north to south. Bali enjoys a mild tropical climate with very pleasant day temperatures between 20⁰C and 33⁰C all the year round. Rainfall is quite low in the north and heavy in the south. The rainy season is from November to March, and though there is only five or six hours of sunshine a day, this happens to be the hottest time of year too. The remains dry from April to October and are decided by the southeastern cool winds. Bali enjoys a mild climate and makes it the perfect destination for tourists to come and enjoy the holiday throughout the year round. The combination of hospitable friendly people, the magnificently visual culture infused with spirituality and the spectacular beaches with its great surfing and diving facilities have without doubt made Bali Indonesia’s number one tourist attraction. Almost eighty percent of international visitors arriving at Indonesia visit Bali and Bali alone. Bali is a wonderful destination with something of interest for everyone.

Balinese culture is hugely influenced by Indian and Chinese and unlike the other islands in a largely Muslim Indonesia; Bali is a pocket of Hindu religion and culture. Every aspect of Balinese life is suffused with religion and the clearly visible signs are the tiny offerings called canang sari which can be seen in every Balinese house, restaurant, souvenir stall, work place and in the airport check-in desk. Caste is observed here and with an estimated 20,000 temples or puras and shrines, Bali is also known as the “Island of a Thousand Puras”, or “Island of the Gods”. Balinese Hinduism has its roots in Indian Hinduism and Buddhism and adopted the traditions of the indigenous people. This influence has strengthened the belief that gods and goddesses are present in all things visible. So, every element of nature has its own power which reflects the power of the gods. A tree, rock, dagger, or even a woven cloth is a potential home for spirits whose energy can be directed for good or evil. Balinese Hinduism is very deeply interwoven with art and ritual. Besides the Balinese Hindus, we also find Chinese immigrants whose traditions have melded with that of the locals. So, Bali is a clear example of co-existence between the cultures where the Sino-Balinese not only embrace their original religion but is a mixture of Buddhism, Christianity, Taoism and Confucianism, where they find a way to harmonize it with the local traditions. Hence, it is not uncommon to find local Sino-Balinese during the local temple’s odalan. It is also interesting that Balinese Hindu priests are invited to perform rites alongside a Chinese priest in the event of the death of a Sino-Balinese.

The most widely spoken languages in Bali are Balinese and Indonesian and most of the Balinese people are either bilingual or trilingual. Though there are several indigenous Balinese languages the most widely spoken one is the common Balinese. English is also a commonly spoken language due to the necessity of the tourism industry.

Bali is among the top five islands in the world according to a recent report published by BBC Travel. This exotic island not only offers holidays spread by rice fields on the volcanic slopes that are likely to be still active and also offers sea activities and water sports such as snorkeling, surfing, and diving, swimming, fishing among others. But the main interest of a taking a vacation in Bali is the scope and pace of life that has nothing to do with our fast paced lives thus helping us to take life at a relaxed and enjoy the small wonders of this spectacular island with its lovely beaches, the tropical jungle, the interesting culture and of course the wonderful hospitality of the Balinese. Thus, with its vast, wide, wonderful beaches of the Indian Ocean, Bali remains a major destination for holiday makers who wish to explore new horizons. The tourism industry in Bali is primarily focused in the south though there is significant activity in the other parts of the island as well. Since Bali is quite a large island you need to plan well to get out and explore as the traffic is chaotic in the main tourist areas especially Kuta, Seminyak and Denspar which is the capital of Bali. It would be a good idea to join a group tour at one of the many tour agencies or through your hotel.

Bali Vacations

Some of the other tourist attractions in Bali apart from its beautiful beaches, the lush green paddy fields and the temples are the Bali Bomb Memorial on Jalan Legian in Kuta which remains as a sad reminder of the first Bali Bomb attack and which commemorates the 202 victims, Mount Agung which at 3,142 meters has not erupted since 1963 and dominates the landscape of East Bali, the still active Mount Batur which smoulders permanently and produces a big bang and plumes of ashy smoke from time to time as and when the pressure is released from within and is just a two hour climb. There are several museums which is a showcase for the works of both the local and foreign artists who have made Bali their home. As Taman Ayun Temple, Batukaru and the Pakerisan watershed are to be proposed to UNESCO as World Heritage sites by the Bali administration it would be a great idea to visit these places of interest too.

Nyepi, or the Hindu New Year of Bali is also known as the Day of Absolute Silence, and is usually either in March or April. In the days preceding Nyepi, you can see amazing and colorful giants (ogoh ogoh) being created by every banjar. On the eve of Nyepi, the ogoh ogoh are paraded through the streets which are an amazing sight and should not be missed if you are in Bali during that time. But on Nyepi absolutely everything on the island is shut down between 6AM on the day of the New Year and 6AM the following morning. Tourists are confined to their hotels and asked to be as quiet as possible for the day. After dark, light must be kept to a bare minimum. No one is allowed on the beaches or the streets. The only exceptions granted are for any real emergencies. The airport remains closed for the entire day, which means no flights into or out of Bali for 24 hours as are the Ferry harbours. Galungan is another 10 day festival which is celebrated to rejoice the death of the tyrant Mayadenawa.

When it comes to water sports and activities, there are many interesting scuba diving sites around Bali. Particularly popular are the ones at Tulamben in the east, the chilled out coral bommies in Padang Bai, exciting drift diving off Nusa Penida in the south and the beautiful reefs around Menjangan Island in the northwest.

The crowds of young backpackers, warm waters, cheap living and the ever reliable waves help to keep Bali near the top of world surfing destinations. Kuta, Legian and Canggu, the Bukit Peninsula and Nusa Lembongan all in the southern coast are the primary draws. Beginners opt for the gentle, sandy areas between Kuta and Legian to be ideal for learning to surf while experts usually head for the big breaks off the Bukit Peninsula.

There are also a number of reputed white-water rafting operators in the Ubud area, and the rafting experience is worth it and is of good quality, especially in the wet season.

Sport fishing is another increasingly popular activity with visitors to the island. Trolling, jigging and bottom fishing can all be very rewarding, with large game far from unusual. The most popular points with a competitive range of options are Padang Bai on the east coast and Benoa Harbour and nearby Serangan close to Kuta, just to the north in Sanur.

Bali Vacations

Any sport or activity can be found in Bali to satisfy just about any interest. From Golf Courses, adventure activities such as Mountain Cycling in the hills of Ubud, Paragliding at Nusa Dua, Bungie Jumping in Seminyak and Horse Riding in Seminyak and Umalas, Jungle Trekking, and even hiking in the rice fields near Ubud are all interesting activities that tourists can look forward to.

There is a lot for the food lovers as well. Bali has a huge choice of restaurants and cafes which caters to both Indonesian and international food. There are many small local places that are worth trying out where the food is really delicious and cheap when compared to the high end eating places. Do try the Indonesian dishes like the nasi goring (fried rice) or mie goring (fried noodles) which are really typically Balinese. Don’t miss out on the bakso which is a delicious and steaming meatball and noodle soup which you can buy in the beaches of Legin, Kuta and Seminyak at sunset – but be careful when you season it as Indonesian spices can be truly hot.

While in Bali don’t forget to take advantage of the famous Bali Elephant Ride which really gives you an out of this world experience. With so much to offer, it is not surprising that Bali is such a popular tourist destination especially since it is easily within the reach of one’s budget. So if you are making plans for a holiday, Bali is the place for you and get ready to enjoy some of the most memorable time of your life where you will be literally living in an Island of Paradise with nature at its very best.

The Bahamas consists of more than 3,000 islands, if we were to include the cays – which are the small islands formed on the coral reefs – and the islets. The very word Bahamas which is of Spanish descent means “Shallow Water” and it is from these islands that the Gulf Stream actually originates! The Bahamas is the dream destination for anyone planning on a holiday

irrespective of their age. It is a particularly popular among the honeymooners and young couples because it boasts of one the world’s most beautiful and exotic beaches where you can see the natural beauty of the water which extends for thousands of miles of undisturbed shorelines.

The Bahamas lies between latitudes 20⁰ and 28⁰N and Longitudes 72⁰ and 80⁰W and covers an area of 5,382 square miles and has a population of 353,658. It enjoys a subtropical to tropical climate and is moderated especially in the winter season, by the waters of the Gulf Stream. The Bahamas got its independence from the UK in 1973 and ever since this little country has prospered through tourism, investment management and international banking. Known as the gateway to the Bahamas, the Bimini Island is the closest to the United States. The official language in the Bahamas is English and the people are very friendly, fun loving and religious. It is interesting that the Baptists is the largest single group in the Bahamas and has a very high ratio of churches per capita in the world.

The Bahamas has more than 5% of the world’s reef mass and has an astonishing variety and abundance of marine life and has plenty of challenges to offer to those who enjoy snorkeling and diving. It is the home to a whole variety of aquatic life and dolphins, sharks, starfish and turtles can be seen in the clear waters.

Vacations in Bahamas

Some of the “must visit” sites are The Pompey Museum of Slavery and Emancipation and Paradise Island which has many attractions in itself. Another place worth mentioning is The Mount Alvemia which is the highest point of 63 m in Cat Island and The Grand Bahama Islandswhich has the most breathtaking clear turquoise blue water, white sandy beaches and beautiful, lush tropical foliage and is an ecological playground featuring an underwater limestone cave system.

For music lovers there is the Calypso, Junkanoo, Soca, Rake and scrape, etc, to choose from. There is a lot of exploring that one can do from the deserted strands of the Exumas and San Salvador to pinks sands of Harbour Island and Eleuthera which will give you some memorable experiences. If you go further inland you can see gardens and National Parks where you can see the endangered and rare species of the Bahamian Iguana and the exotic Abaco parrot. The largest island in the Bahamas is Andros and boasts of the world’s third largest barrier reef and is a favorite spot for people who love water activities. The blue holes which is found both inland and undersea is something that one must not miss while in the Bahamas.

For food lovers, there is a lot of experimenting one can do with the different sea food available and most of them are very delicious. The national dish is the conch which is a type of mollusk which is served deep-fried or raw with a twist of lemon and is as common anywhere in the Caribbean, with peas and rice to accompany it.
